I think I need to relace the 60K shocks on my "97 EXT 4L SOHC 4X$.
I do about 60% city driving and about 30% highway with about 10% (mild) off road.
What would be a good schock for this application?
I don't want to brake th bank.
Any Ideas, with out searching for days.

Thanks loads.

The Gabriel VST's are a great buy at Autozone. Cheap and good overall.

I agree that the Gabriels are a great budget shock.

If you want to spend some cash, maybe Rancho or Bilstein.

Would shocks normally need replacing after about 55k of highway miles?
Seems a little soon!

very happy with my edelbrocks. kinda pricey, but well worth it.

although touted as off-road shocks my rs5000 ranchos do a good job on the road, rides pretty smooth. My dads ex has the gabriel vst, not bad, i think mine rides better though....:p

I jujst purchased 4 Rancho 9000s from Summit. Much higher than others, but they have a dial on each one that gives you 9 settings to adjust ride quality from soft to firm.

Alec,

I thought the Rancho/Bilstein, especially the bilstein were for an offroad application, and from what I've read are on the stiffer side.

So, if I had money to spend and did alot of city (bumpy/pot hole) driving, what would be a better quality shock than the gabriel that is not going to make the ride too stiff/harsh for riding on old NY city streets?

Think cobble stone!

The Monroe Sens-a-tracs or in there less costly version the Gabrial VST. The Monroes are made more for the street and the Gabrials are more for the road. Both are maid by Monroe.
