Replacement Transfer Case, Are All Part#'s / Revisions Interchangeable?

Hello,
I have a 2004 Explorer Sport Trac XLS 4WD with switch on dash.
My Transfer case is bad and I need a new one.
The original transfer case is model # 3L24-AB
The only transfer cases I can find locally at the salvage yard are models
1L24-BK out of a 2002 Sport Trac
2L24-AA out of a 2003 Sport Trac
3L24-AA out of a 2003 Sport Trac
Will any of these work for my 2004 Sport Trac, or do I need the same EXACT Model / Revision as a replacement?

I don't know WHY there would be interchange problems but I can't say yes or no with any authority. Better ask a Ford dealer parts guy.

I have the same problem. The low range went out after a replacement transfer case motor (CARDONE) decided to switch on its own at 70 MPH. So, I have 2WH, 4WH but no 4WL. I do not have the tools to fix it myself but I did find a 1L54-7A195-FA which LOOKS just like mine. Mine would be a 4L24-7A195-CA. What could possibly be different? They look identical. I called a junk yard and they said they are not a direct replacement for each other but could not tell me what is different. I guess I will annoy the dealership and see if they will tell me anything.
