bkennedy, RangerX and myself headed out today to do a nice easy day run . We all met up this morning and headed up. Got to the trail head aired down and hit the sidewinder trail around 10 am. In the first 100 feet we all put are lockers and sliders to a great test. We knew we were going to have fun.
After more crawling some verticals and some drop offs we are about 3/4 mile in on the trail (trails only .9 miles long 10:45 am) and bill comes on the radio "I broke my radius arm" Sure enough the driverside rancho arm snapped right in half. He was able to drive in about another 50 feet to a nice flat spot to start the repairs.
We start tearing in apart to get the arm off knowing we needed to weld it. However none of us have a welder on our rigs (Thanks for not showing up Jefe ) So we decide the fastest way to fix it is to take it back to my house and welded up. So we get it apart RangerX and I hop in my truck and drive the 56 miles back to my house. We weld it back together and add a piece of 3/8 think angle iron to plate it for some extra stength. In the truck 54 miles back to the trail. We get back and toss it together and are back on the trail around 3 pm.
We decide to make the nice senic loop around the park then head home. This trail in afew spots that have mud holes that go 3/4 of the way up a 37" tire. So we all get our trucks covered in mud and I get stuck once. I learned that 31"s dont do well in ruts left by bills 37"s Anyway somewhere along the way we missed a turn and ended up on a pretty challanging trail that wasnt on any of the maps but is maintained by the terra del sol 4x4 club. That trail took about 3-4 hours for us to complete with a good bit of challange.
Once we got aired up it was dark and heading home. I forgot my camera but bill and brian had theirs. Im sure tehy will post pics.
