Weeeelllll one and all, it's been a while. Sup JTang, Mr. Steve, my homies... and sup to you DrkFox. Welcome to the group. Just wanted to let everyone know I've not died in the last couple of weeks. Made my rounds on the car audio circut sizing up the install compatition here recently. Happy to say both IASCA and USAC were great. Pictures as soon as I get a scanner for one and all. Some killer install's in Explorers.

Just an update to those keeping track.

Alpine IVA-C800

Rockford Fosgate 400a4
Rockford Fosgate 1000bd1

Boston Accoustic Pro Series 5 1/4" Components with Tweeters up front.
Boston Accoustic Rally Series 5 1/4" Components in the rear.
Diamond Hex Series Mac-Daddy 10" Sub in the stealth box.

AMD K6/2 500 w/ 160MB RAM Book PC in the console sporting GPS and DVD on demand.
All thats wired to the IVA-C800 for video and audio goodness.
Nokia 5100/6100 "Hands Free" speaker phone kit. (Wiring for wireless internet on the way.)
Sony PS-One moded and installed running through the IVA-C800.
Cobra CB in the center console.

Soon to be added:
Alpine H-510 Dolby Digital Decoder w/ SPDIF from the Book PC.
Alpine Center channel speaker and 30 watt amp.

Whew. Alot there eah? How much more can I cram in there? Taking suggestions. Just remember, ALL OF THAT IS STEALTH. Except the "Hands Free" kit. Hard to hide the cradle and make it functional at the same time.

Glad to see you're back. I almost forgot about you there. So how's the whole computer thing working? Let's see some pics when you get a chance.

I two would like so pics of all your goodies

Ok, Ok.... I'm going to take some pics!

I think Audio Express (A local franchise) may have just toastet the rear mosfets on my Rockford 400x4. They just Dynamited the passangers side (were my amps were behind the kick plates) and they may have toasted the amp by screwing with the wiring.

This really pisses me off. That and they did a horrible job on my hands free kit. I have a feeling I may not be to polite with them when I go to have them fix this stuff. Deal with professionals my friends say. Bahh...

Until later...

That sucks man. Sure it'd be nice to have a professional install you stuff but the could always screw up, some times worse than you could have.

Steve

Hey Skipp! Glad to see you're back! Was wondering if you fell of this earth! You know what? I was watching that movie "The Sixth Day" and one of those guys had a "Virtual Girlfriend". I remember that they used to have programs like that, with the mini-AI and stuff for PCs way back when. Never got to see one, but they said it'd learn and stuff. I just thought that it would be funny if you were able to install a program like that in your car so it would talk to you, even if it wasn't too good. You'd be the first person to have a car with some type of AI.

One more step towards Knight Rider!

Hehe.

Jon

Yeah Knight Rider. Get some lights like Alec has on the front of his Explorer. Then you'd be even closer to it!! Ha ha!

Steve

I can see it now...

Me: "Karr... engadge the MP3 player"

Karr: "You got it Micheal, I mean Skip"

I wonder if those Windoze CE headunits would support an input microphone and output speech. Hmmmmm. I know all Macs come with voice recognition and speech output.

IDEA!! I have a way old mac in my closet at home. I might just hide it under the seat (its the size of a pizza box), run a mic, and patch into my front speakers. Doable? I'll need a power inverter, though. Any idea if my truck can handle running a 68040 CPU with 20mb RAM and a 60mb HD?

Splat will speak!

I'm running a K6/2 500 (Pentium 500) with 160MB RAM and 20Gig Hard-drive. I've had no problems so far. I'm looking into a DC/DC PSU (Power Supply Unit).

You should have no problems with the Mac. The voice recognization software... now thats tricky. I couldn't get Dragon Naturally Speaking to work the way I wanted it to. The stereo kept getting in the way.

I would pipe your audio leads through an AUX port on your head unit if you have one. I have a whole AUX setup on my Alpine devoted to the PC. You may get some feedback by wiring directly. Besides, a sound card is no Amp.
