reverse delay/od light flashing

When I put the gear selector in reverse nothing happens for about 30 seconds or so, then the od light starts flashing and it goes into reverse and works fine. everything is good in drive. If I turn the car off and back on the od light is off. I checked the fluid level and it is high. Any ideas?

Sounds like the common symptom for a blown out valve body gasket. Should of retorqued the bolts a couple years ago.

so what are we looking at in terms of repair? Can the gasket be replaced or do I need a rebuild? Just had the transfer case replaced about a month ago. Tried to get them to pull the tranny cover and check it out but it was a warranty repair and they wouldn't do it. I will call tomorrow and see if they will cover this as well but I doubt it.

From what I've heard, a dealer will do this for about $800.
