Rev's Drop, tick in engine bay?

Hey all new to the forum I'm actually posting in concern to my boss' car ('02 explorer V6)

recently began having an issue where revs will ocassionally drop at idle (cluster dims as well) then pops back up without over-revving. Thought it could've been a misfire but discovered a loud single tick sound in the engine bay that corresponds with each drop. Tick comes from the driver's side of the bay and sounds to me like a solenoid. Happens once every minute or two.

Cars got about 52k on it and it took him almost 6 months to change out warped rotors

No CEL's, any ideas?

sounds like the A/C compressor kickin' in and out

disconnect the A/C wiring plug from the compressor and see if it still does it...let us know
