Rim weights

hey i am looking for some rims to get but i dont want them to be too heavy and slow my explorer down. I was wondering how much the stock rims and tires weigh and what some good forged aftermarket rims are. I want 18's. Also, are car rims ok for an explorer sport 2wd? Could they be used to tow a boat or would they not be able to handle the weight? Thanks for the help

The weight of the rim depends on the rim brand. Explorers handle 18 inch rims just fine. Some car rims are ok, but it depends, I would say it's not a good idea.

Towing with 18 inch rims will cause them to crack into oblivion at the first tug of a trailer (that was a joke). Towing with 18 inch rims is dandy if you get a significant enough tire.

hartman, what i meant about the weight was i wanted to know how much lighter forged are than cast and i was also curious what the stock chrome 15's and 235-75-r15 combo weighs. Thanks for the help.

i'm putting 18" y2k cobras with toyo proxes tomorrow (saturday).

on the back of the y2k cobra rims, it says, "max load: 1400 lbs"

so i guess ... 4x1400 = 5600 lbs?

i hope i can tow with my 18s ... cuz i like towing.

With the Y2K's are you running 255s or 275s? Any rubbing?
