Ok I'm going to buying a locker soon, And I was thinking I should pick up a rock ring at the same time. I'm looking for some recomendations. I would like to keep it under a $100 bucks.

Or should I just buy a thicker cover?

What cover do you have now? If you have the composite cover like mine did, you can pick up a actual steel cover from the dealer for $25. Ask for an F150 cover.

The best reasonably priced armor I've seen is the Warn diff guard for under $80.

I have the factory cover right now :( I belive it is steel.... I think.

I'm 99% sure the diff cover on my axle is metal. There are diff covers for sale on ebay for around 90 bucks or so. You can also get an SVO diff cover but theyre upwards of 150 bucks. Why do you need a heavier duty diff cover? In all the years I've been wheeling I've only bent the diff cover enough to allow fluid to leak out once.

I thought mine was steel, till I backed into a rock at T-haven and cracked it!

This one saved my butt quite a few times...

I got it from a guy that was selling them here over 2 years ago. He went out of buisness though.

i have seen axles like ours withthe rear cover catch rocks and peel the cover off the axle. That is why a 3rd member diff is so much more durable.

Blue torch fab makes a nice cover. DB1 has one but it is expensive. I am probably going to go with one like rangerX posted and add a few supports to it. I might have to pick up a steel cover at the dealer as well if they are only $25. My ranger has a plastic rear diff cover as well.

Have you guys ever seen the plexi glass ones! :D I saw one and just started laughing! However they say they are just as strong as steel. I don't belive it though.

Some of what I found...

Purple Cranium

Half $69

Full $119

Not to bad...I just don't like how the half only attaches on the bottom half

Posion Spyders $108

I'm leaning tord the two full ones I like the look of the PC Full(2nd one) best and for $11 more then the PS.... The imprtant part is the protected bolts. Thats why I don't like the "build your own"

I also found this interesting artical on different kinds of guards...check it out

After ripping up 3 of the stock $27 steel covers I have my eye on either the Warn (if they ever make them again) or the pricey Currie full cover, I have a friend who reps them through his shop, I can get one for about $150.

i personally like the poison spider design.... it prtects the ring reag and the bolt holes... what else do you need to worry about?

i have the poison spider on the rear diff, its the only one that would fit between the spare tire bracket and the diff cover. I like it alot and it is low profile. I have a half cover that sicks out in the front, and frankly all it does is put huge leverage loads on the bolts and rip them out of the housing. i will be cutting it down in the spring :D

I'm real happy with my BTF cover, made from 1/4" steel for the main part and 3/8" for the flange...bulletproof. I'm gonna get one for my d44 soon too. I see superlift is making diff rings now too, don't know if they have them for 8.8's yet though.
