RockRangerII the build up.

tank is plastic so no sparks from grinding on that. I am a pro with cutting with a grinder. That how I built my whole truck. I have much more control with a grinder then I do withe a sawzall.

Here is a picture of the remains of my fender trimming before the truckhaven run  :D Took care of almost all of my clearnce issues. I still have three problems. One is the driveshaft rubbing on the gastank. That will stop now that the stock gas tank is no longer in the truck. The second spot is the front tires are rubing on the inner fenders. This will be resolved whe i add bump stops to the front. The last spot is the tires rub the front shacks on compression. Tis will get resolved by bumpstops and wheel spacers.

I started working on installing the bronco II gas tank. On a short bed there are some clearance issues to make it work. There is a cross member on the bed that makes you have to mount it about 1.5" lower then the highest that it could get mountes. This in turn will cause the filler hose to be super tight in fitting. I still Haven't figured out how to resolve this yet.

The first picture is of the broncoII tank being mounted up. You will notice how there are three openings on the tank. The large one for the fuel pump. The one closest to the frame rail is for the filler neck. The third one is teh white thing in the center. It is part of teh emission systems I guess.

The second picture is the stock ranger tank. There are also three openings on it. One is the fuel pump, one is the filler neck, and the third for emissions.

So now comes the problem of sticking a ranger pump in a BII tank. If you look at the top of a ranger pump there are two arrows on it. (pic 1) Directly below them on the bottom are two tabs that stick down. (pic2). These tabs are what locate the pump rotation in the tank. The openings on both tanks ar ethe same size however the location of these tabs are different. So to make it fit you need to grind one of these tabs off. Will this work as well as using a pump setup specicially for the BII? Dont know but this pump is free cause I already have it and will give it a try.

The pump then will be held down with the stock ring off the BII tank. (pic 3) It should fit but I havent tried it forsure yet.

Then where that white thing was on the broncoII tank I pulled it out and it looks like the vent valve from my ranger tank will fit in there perfect. (pic4)

I spent most of yesterday running around trying to find parts to modify the fuee lines. They are a plastic line of some sort and I am still tring to figure out the best way to modify them to my needs.

Hey Matt did you see my post about making your own Nylon fuel lines?
Is the Ranger pump and sending unit the same DEPTH as the BII assembly?????

Link me I tried searching but couldnt find it. As far as the depth it seams pretty close. I still have to do some final checking but it looks like it clears the the bottom by about 1/4" I know that will make it leave about a gallon in the bottom of the tank but I have never ran out of gas in my ranger and that is with like a 14 gallon tank. Worse case is when I get the bugs of everything else worked out I can go get a BroncoII pump later. On a ranger it only takes 15 min to change a pump :D . 6 bolts and an electrical connector hold the bed on. Pull it off and there is the pump :D

the nylon fuel line you can buy in bulk. You can cut your stock ends off the old nylon and build a new length to run on your truck to the tank for both the high pressure and return lines.
You can boil the metal ends and press the nylon hose over them. It takes some serious heat, I have been using a propane camping burner to get the water hot enough.
The plastic fittings (like we have with the white clip that locks them in place) are a little trickier but can also be done, you use a vise and press the heated/boiled hose end over the fitting. Plan to get some extra's at the junk yard.
The hose must go over all 3 flares or it will leak.

Now on my BII after building several fuel lines for the different conversions (including 5.0L)
I have found all but one line that I needed on other Ford trucks, so I replaced some of the lines I built with factory lines that fit perfectly.
What I am getting at is there may be a long bed Ranger or a dual tank ranger you can simply pull the lines from that will reach the BII tank???
Maybe not.

Hahaha I wish I could just take the bed off my truck sometimes!

I dont care about smog. 4 more months and I will be living in a no smog zone of cali :D I just need to find the fuel line in bulk then. Do yo know where I can pick this up Jamie? Junkyards are all half hour plus away from me and it would be easier for me if its just available at napa or somewhere similar. The metal parts you are talking about I can get at Napa. I need to extend the lines about 4-5 feet at the most.

I need to register my ranger at your new address when you move :p

hey, can yall help me with my truck, havin to move my stock tank to get in a second Tcase, and looks like gonna have to run a B2 tank where the spare tire is, so i guess the same thing yall are doing, but without any cutting of the floor and no body lift, my truck is in the offroad projects forum

without any cutting of the floor and no body lift on an Explorer= BII tank hanging down kinda low.
Remember the Ranger, BII, and Explorer frames are DIFFERENT behind the front doors.
Your leafs are mounted under the rail, ours are outboard the rail, your frame is wider.

I believe Fakarwee was planning the BII tank, but ended up with a custom unit in the long run.
His Navajo would be same as your Sport.
You might look up his thread and PM him as well.

Got a few hours to work on the BII tank swap. Have to work tommorow :fire: so no TDS run for me next weekend. I still need to figure out the filler hose, put a few straps on the tank, drill a few holes in the skidplate for the mounts, cut a support under the bed out of the way, then paint it and it will all be done.

Now as far as the plumbing for the fuel lines, vent, and electrical.

The electrical is pretty basic. Took the 4 wires cut them and added a few feet to them, put them in a harness and that was done.

The plumbing here is how I did it. At NAPA they sell 25 feet of the nylon fuel hose to extend it Both the feed and return line are 5/16" line. Part number 730-4958. It costs around $50  I only used like 7 feet. Anyone want to buy some fuel line :D Then I just cut the stock fuel line 6" from the end. I then used NAPA part number 730-4911 to splice in the extra line. They come 2 to a pack and you need 2 packs (4 total) of them. I resued one of the ends that I cut off the original lines, I could have reused both but had a un needed piece laying around that I bought earlier. Just boil the nylin line in hot water for a minute or two then push the adapter part on. It is a PIA so be ready to yell and swear a bit trying to get them together.

For the vapor line, I picked up about 4 feet of 1/4" vacume line and a plastic pice to splice to female ends together and that is how I extended it.

I havent tested for leaks yet cause I still need to clean up the tank I have and dont want to put gas in it yet.

Forgot a picture here is teh splice piece that you need 4 of. My camera died so that is the only picture i got.

Very interesting...I know you don't care about smog but since you are basicly just extending everything it should still be smog legal huh?

I belive so. It should all work fine. I do want it to stay smog legal though. Just cause when I move in a few months I wont have to smog it anymore doesnt mean I could swap in an illigal motor. If I did that and got caught it is a pretty nasty fine if I remember right. I had a friend who did that up there and got caught ( the chp knew something was up when he was doing 80 mph up an 8% grade in a jeep on 37"s) luckly he gave him a warning but the next week he was at the dmv green stickering it and never driving it on the highway again.

When I do my tank, I may ask for some of that fuel line ;)
