Wife sends me picture and tells me there's insulation fluff inside engine bay. It wasn't like that before. Could this be rats doing this work and how can I overcome? We have t drove the car often as I've been slowly fixing it up.

Looks like rodents.

There are a lot of alternatives to get rid of them: snap traps, poison, etc…. with poison, the rodents could die in a place where you would not a dead rodent. I found snap traps effective, especially if you bind the bait with thread to the trap mechanism so that the rodents can not easily steal it.

To keep them away, there are also alternatives: high frequency emitters, predator spray, moth balls, etc. the only thing that worked for me was Honda Rodent tape, which you can get at a Honda dealer. Looks like the World’s most expensive electric tape, but it works, really well. Rodents have not returned to my RV in many years.

Good luck.

Where would I place the snap traps? Inside near passenger seat? Or inside engine bay? Also where would I place the tape if I go that route

Snap trap … wherever the rodents are, especially near the chewing sites, and any obvious paths to the chewing sites.

Rodent tape … I would cover the chewed items, and maybe add a little in other places, in case the smell deters them as well as the taste.

Good luck!

Might want to check inside the fan housing, possible a nest may be against that resistor pack. Found that rodents had eaten through every bit of a cabin air filter on another car. I will not be describing the scent .

Also check inside the air cleaner box and intake tube. I once drove a straight truck for work that was always parked outside. One year birds decided to make a nest around the air cleaner. I'd clean it out, drive it for the day, and they'd rebuild the nest overnight. This went on for 2-3 weeks.

I was able to clean it up and gave it a peppermint oil rub down in some spots. I ran the heater blower for quite some time and so far so good.

Now my question is , I had to removed the insulation they tore up picture below. Shall I replace it or is it ok if I leave it without the insulation.

The insulation is there to help keep heat soak out of your ac system

It is not a bad idea to have it therr

I used a solid metal piece from a late
Model ranger instead of the soft padding the earlier trucks use

You can leave your hood open it makes it way less desirable for the rodents
