Roof Rack Help???

Hey Folks,

So my bro went to install a roof rack I ordered on my '92 ex today. I got the Surco 45 x 60 with the CH100 adapter. I confirmed with the folks I ordered it from, and Surco themselves that the part numbers I got were correct, so I didn't expect any issues as all the reviews said easy install.

I haven't gotten a chance to look at it yet, and my bro didn't have the instructions on him...but he said there is NO WAY that what we got will work with the factory roof rails on the X.

From what I can gather, the factory rails don't have tracks that the adaptor can work with. Did Ford by chance make more than one type of cargo rails? Or is my bro simply overlooking something? I would add that my factory rails are chrome...I have yet to see another '92 with chrome rails....I don't have another Ex to compare it to handy to check if they are different.

Any help is appreciated!!

figured it out!

well...just when we were about to look at ripping off the current roof rack system to put back a stock Ford system we got from a local junk yard, inspiration struck. I was in town and an early 90's Jeep Cherokee "sport" pulled up next me. I noticed the stock roof rail system was chrome coloring just like the one on my explorer and as I took a closer look.....surprise surprise, it was the exact same set up. Same measurements, some rail system, everything. I looked out for a few more heeps because they are everywhere and sure enough, they all had the same rail system.

So apparently the original owner got the Ex without a factory rail system, and managed to find a Jeep system and get it installed on my Ex. So I called Surco, and they of course looked at the pictures I sent them and confirmed what I found. They are sending out the adapters for a Jeep (J100) for free as replacement for the CH100s I already bought. I should be getting those in by next Monday. Mystery solved.
