Hi gang. I've got a newly acquired '93 I need racks for. Yakima/Thule etc do not carry anything for this set up. It's got factory racks with the low profile side rails nothing can attach to.

What are people doing about mounting racks in this case? Looking for multi purpose use to haul kayaks, bikes, cargo basket...weighty stuff.

Thanks all!

You can slide second gen racks into your existing side rails. They are a lot more sturdy than the first gen racks. I carry a 17 foot canoe with that set up. I hook my straps to the plastic loops that slide into the side rails.

Interesting thoughts, I appreciate the response! Do you do a lot of off road travel with a load on the roof? Just curious about how strong the 2nd gen bars are under load and stress.

I've done a bit more digging and while there is not a ton of info on how to's, the most common fixes I can find are to either bolt through the roof or custom fab mounts that will slide into the rails.

I'm open to other ideas! Anybody else?!

I had one of these for several years on my 1994. If fits into the original sliders

Worked well until it started pulling the bolts out of the roof after about ten years, on the side I mounted my Hi-Lift. Welded a custom rack out of EMT Conduit that bolts through the roof using well nuts.
