New to us 05 sport trac, ran smooth but nosily, needed the timing chains done. We did the chain meticulously and reinstalled the engine. Here is where we went wrong. When we went to start the engine we pulled the coil wire to build oil pressure, not realizing we were pumping fuel into the cylinders until the motor hydro locked. So we pulled the spark plugs and fuel pump relay and cranked it over a few times to push the fuel out. Now the truck started and ran rough and smoked a lot. I noticed a black liquid seeping from the exhaust pipe at the flange at the base of the "Y" pipe so we then changed the oil to make sure the gas didn't get by the rings. Truck started up again and continued to smoke for a while and through 2 codes P2196 and P2198, surges at idle and does not seem to have power ( have not driven this at all, I do not think it would be drivable). We left the battery disconnected over night to clear everything. We loosened the "Y" pipe to relieve the cats incase they were clogged and restarted it, long crank then same idle surge. To me it seems like a mis or vacuum issue but we can't find either.
Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thank You.

Hate to mention something so drastic, but the engine may have bent a connecting rod or two from being hydro locked.

We noticed a fuel smell when cranking now so we pulled the injectors and they appear to be stuck open and will not cycle when power applied. So we ordered new ones and are waiting to test.

Just for future reference, if you push accelerator to the floor it will be in flood mode. You can crank engine with fuel system disengaged

Thanks! Got it fixed. For what ever reason 4 out of 6 injectors were stuck open. Put new injectors in and truck runs perfect.
