rpm guage

so my 92 2wd explorer has the 4.0 and the rpm guage is wierd. when you start the truck it goes to 3k and stays there until you rev it past 3k in which it will move to a differant location above 3k. is there a way to fix this that someone has come across, how hard would it be to put a aftermarket guage in.

is the engine reving that high-- or just the guage moving?

Just get another tach..... It comes out of your cluster fairly easily and won't look dumb like having an aftermarket tach sitting there.
