I was just wondering how many RPM's you guys are turning in your X's at 65 MPH, and I guess question relates to the folks with 5 speed auto.

I pull around 1750 rpm at 65mph in OD T-converter locked
Also I have 3.55 gears and LT265 75R 16
and get around 20 MPG on average?? and 23 on trips

At 60 mph, around 2500rpm locked in OD with 4.10 rear end. Around 2900, 3000 rpm at 70 mph, around 3300 rpm at 80 mph.

I get around 18 mpg at 70-75 mph, give or take.

At the 'indicated' 65 mph I'm turning about 2k rpm's...
At 75 I'm at 2500 rpm's, and I don't usually drive faster than that considering my dire need of new tires... sometime soon I'll explore more of the speedo.

97' V8 AWD... stock gears and no engine mods...

When I am driving on the streets at 65 mph in O.D. I'm at about 1,700-1,800 rpms. Thats with 36" tires and 4.56s with intake and exhaust mods.

Why does my engine speed run so high??

One of three reasons, 1) you didn't read your tach. correctly, 2) you have smaller than stock tires or 3) your transmission isn't going into OD.

My '97 with 265 75R16 tires and 4.10 axle turns 2200 RPM at 65 MPH. With my stock 255 70R16 tires it turned just over 2300 RPM.

Robert, if you're directing that message toward me, I'm gonna double check the engine speed this weekend on my way home from school. My tires are stock size (255-70R16). I'm 100% sure that OD is engaged on the highway because when I hit the OD off button, the rpm needle jumps so I'm 100% sure OD engaged.

Man, that's really good. I guess those Super Swampers really off set the 4.56 gears.
