Replaced my water pump about 8 months ago and with it replaced all coolant. Now I have a leak passenger side about a foot behind the axle. Guessing it's the heater core. Question: the water that has leaked is as rusty as it can get. What other than the radiator can it be so rusted out? BTW, radiator is OEM with 194,000 under its belt.

Probably a good idea to flush the entire system, and might be a good idea to replace the radiator, heater core, and the hoses all at the same time. Good for your peace of mind to know that they're all new, especially with summer getting closer! Good luck with it!

The rust is from the engine block. The rust inhibitor in the coolant was no longer doing its job. As MayJan said it would be a good idea to flush the system.

Thank you, gentlemen. It is the perfect time of year for starting anew. Thank you for your inputs.
