Well a total of 22 hours for two guys and another 4 hours by myself and the swap is done and the explorer is on the ground moving under its own power.

This is just the first stage of getting the axles in with stock 79 F150 parts. I have to order 4" softride coils and leafs yet and make or order some flex shackles.

End result will be 38" boggers or TSL's on 15 x8" rims and it will flex like a beast. I have to work out some brake gremlins also, stemming from the rear drums. I think I am just going to go to rear disks for the 9" right away to work those problems out. The front is a High Pinion 44 and the brakes work great up there.

As you can see its sitting on some 31's that were around the shop and thats with stock F150 springs in front and stock explorer leafs in back over the rear axle.

I have 35's that are going to find their way on there asap so it won;t look so ridiculous.

nice swap...how about a a flex shot...

nice swap.. wanna come help me do mine in 22 hours?

SkanlaxJMO- Flex shots coming in a month or so, I have to get the 35's on first and throw the 9" disks on yet.

buckshotmudder- 22 hours was mostly because these guys I am friends with fabricate for a living and really know their stuff. If I were to tackle this alone, it would be a 6 month project:)

sn0border88- The spools are not as bad as you woudl think. I came from a drag racing background so I am used to driving on the street with a spool. As long as your turns are slow the tires make very little noise, just a little chirping. The front could no longer be used on the street unless you leave one hub unlocked, spooled front and rear now made it more of a play toy then a daily driver, but thats not a problem for me, I have two other vehicles and a company truck.

looks nice. one question, wheres the rad arms?

It's in the pic between the axle and the RA mount. :p:

Look killer.
hardy har har lol. Didnt see that it has a drop mount. I thought that was the garage floor.

Here is the far from finished Explorer of mine with full width D44 and 9" and 35x15.50x15 Super Swamper TSL SX's.

I decided to take the explorer out after work today just to see how she flexed. I was impressed! No tire rubbing at all. That 4' high culvert was a piece of cake in two wheel drive.. it just went right up. My explorer stock would get stuck either by high centering or by dragging the rear bumper or both.

Its also nice and soft too.. and goes down the road pretty well. I still have lots of things to sort out yet as far as road manners, but its a good start!

Wow, that thing just looks sick the way it is! What gears are in those axles, and how hard is it for that 4.0 to turn those 35's?

Can you get a front and back picture of it, with the wheels straight. I want to get an idea of how far the wheels stick out.

You wish is my command, this is going up a small 4' incline.

I used 3.5" backspacing on the rear and 4.5" backspacing on the front so the track width was close to the same.

Very, very cool. i like the wide stance it has.

its SOO stable in off camber situations now and it feels planted on the road too, aside form the humming of the TSL's and the back massage they give you since they are not balanced:)

The 4.0L does OK, but Its coming out this saturday in favor of a 351W/C6/NP205 with a doubler.

The 4.)L woudl do fine if I has 5.38's in there, but the sheer weight alone of the steel wagon wheels and 15.5" wide TSL's woudl make any V6 work./.

I'm using a d44 from a full size also...hope mine looks about that wide :D

My fullwidth SAS is about 2 weeks from starting, im using 36x13.5x15 TSL-SX for now, after that im going to 38x15.5x15:D

I too plan on running bigger tires, but the 351W swap was first on my list. I have 4" lift rear leaf springs already, just need to buy the superlift soft front springs and I can take my body lift out and run the 37's that I want to run.

once again love the truck!

but i do have a question for snoborder88...if you plan on doing a fw sas, how are you goin to make it street legal? right now my tires stick out 2" each side and i got pulled over for it! and im just curious of how your gonna make a fw axle and a 13" wide tires, stay under the fender/fender flare?

oh and for you out of pa'ers. you arent aloud to have any part of the tire outside the fender here in this state thats why im asking this question
