What is the best way to do this SeaFoam treatment on this SOHV 4.0L engines.

Thanks in advance.

boy hopefully i can get this in before everyone rips into you lol there are hundreds of post on the seafoam treatment.

SOHC, the best bet is the PCV hoses, or depending if your intake is set up that way, the IAC valve vaccuum line

search for my posts i have pictures of the insertion points on two different SOHC engines

Thanks for the info, I been looking for an hour and I see lots of info but I'm getting confuse about type of engines.

this first pic is from my brothers 2001 Explorer Sport 4.0 SOHC Using the vaccuum line for the IAC Valve:

these pics are from my 2002 ford ranger 4.0 SOHC.
1)first find the PCV Valve
here is where the PCV valve is

2) follow this hard plastic vaccuum hose from the PCV valve to the inlet right under the Throttle body

3) use this 90* rubber eblow and rotate it upward so you can insert a funnel.

I found your post http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=199414&highlight=seafoam

Is that the same 6 cyl engine I have in my 99 Explorer?

i think your 99 will probably more closely resemble my brothers 2001 SOHC. so you recall if the intake area looks similar?

1993 Ranger 4.0 OHV - SeaFoam Insertion Point

So I really want to SeaFoam my aging engine, but I'm concerned that the brake booster doesnt feed equally to all 6 cylinders in my 4.0 OHV.

The booster goes into the end of the manifold by the last two cylinders... is there another place on the manifold that I can use to suck in the SeaFoam that will go to all cylinders? Anyone have a diagram of the intake manifold and/or vacuum lines?

Can I use the PVC for this engine too? Seems to me from just looking at it that the PVC may or may not go to all cylinders.

I really don't know lol I just want to make sure the entire intake can benefit from the SeaFoam, and not just a few cylinders. Im paranoid that cleaning out some but not all will cause a compression imballance or something.

Thanks!

There are only two V6 engines for the Explorer. SOHC or OHV. I see in your profile that you have an XLS which tend to have the OHV engine. The pics above are of the SOHC. Generally speaking, the SOHC has a black plastic manifold cover that says SOHC 4.0L on it. If you don't have that cover, then most likely you have OHV. Seafoam methods vary between the two engines. TONS of threads in the archives document how it's done.
