I have a 96 explorer and my seat belt broke, the part thatyou buckle down by your leg. Its on
the driver side and wanted to know if its easier to buy a new one and install yourself or take the chance of being ripped off by the dealership?

It's simple to replace. Just one bolt on the bottom of the seat. Unbolt the seat, turn it over, and it should be obvious. Since you have a 96, I assume it does not have the belt pre-tensioner (pyro device). The replacement part without the tensioner is relatively inexpensive. The newer version with the pre-tensioner is not ... more like $250 new. You could also get one from a parts yard if you can find one that isn't worn out.

Thanks for the help. Its the buckle that is connected to the rail with a cord coming out of it. Since the belt wont go into the buckle i have had a alarm type beeping going off when I open th door, does this have to do with the seat belt buckle being broken.
