Then lets get started.
The first thing every toob bending fab shop needs is:
But note to self: Get the thin chalk... not the fat stuff.
I used a part of my hammock, which is down for the season, as a straight edge to figure out just how wide I want this thing.... as well as what I'm doing to need to do to make it bend along the rear hatch nicely.
I decided having just a straight piece going across would look too lame. So I wasn't sure if I should have two bends on the hatch piece or three. I settled on three. One in the center, and one more 18" out on each side.
Here are the measurements I will try to keep it in. Now, that 66.5" bring is pretty close into the body on the sides.. which is what I wanted. I didn't want it sticking out where it would want to 'hook' on everything I drive by.
So I wanted the corners of the bumper to be 2" "in" from the dead-center of the bumper. That would make it follow the body line well.
The 3 first bends were minimal. Just about 2 degrees each.
Here is a top view of it trying to show the three bends. They're more noticable in person and follow the lines quite well. When I'm at the point of mounting the bumper it'll be back slightly more than in the pic. Notice the clamps holding it up.
Mocking it up. Looking good so far.
Here it is pretty much bent and cut. I've had some Ballistic Fab tube ends for about a year now. They'll be capping the ends for a bling-rounded look.
Now I'm working on the lower part which will house the aluminum fairlead.
