This is pretty much the design I am gonna go with. I figured I don't really have a need for a receiver mount. Once I throw a winch back there and a couple shackles, what else would I need??

So here it is. Whadaya think?

looks good...

Then lets get started.

The first thing every toob bending fab shop needs is:
chalk.jpg

But note to self: Get the thin chalk... not the fat stuff.

mockup.jpg

I used a part of my hammock, which is down for the season, as a straight edge to figure out just how wide I want this thing.... as well as what I'm doing to need to do to make it bend along the rear hatch nicely.

I decided having just a straight piece going across would look too lame. So I wasn't sure if I should have two bends on the hatch piece or three. I settled on three. One in the center, and one more 18" out on each side.

measurements.jpg

Here are the measurements I will try to keep it in. Now, that 66.5" bring is pretty close into the body on the sides.. which is what I wanted. I didn't want it sticking out where it would want to 'hook' on everything I drive by.

measurements2.jpg

So I wanted the corners of the bumper to be 2" "in" from the dead-center of the bumper. That would make it follow the body line well.

bender.jpg

The 3 first bends were minimal. Just about 2 degrees each.

topview.jpg

Here is a top view of it trying to show the three bends. They're more noticable in person and follow the lines quite well. When I'm at the point of mounting the bumper it'll be back slightly more than in the pic. Notice the clamps holding it up.

sideview.jpg

Mocking it up. Looking good so far.

corner.jpg

Here it is pretty much bent and cut. I've had some Ballistic Fab tube ends for about a year now. They'll be capping the ends for a bling-rounded look.

Now I'm working on the lower part which will house the aluminum fairlead.

Looks good, wha about having a reviever front and back so you can move your winch back and forth?

I would.. but my winch is sooo jammed up into the front of the truck it would be a 45 minute process to unbolt it all. Which is good cause it's that much more theft proof. I'll probably just pick up that $299 Smittybilt for the rear. I could have used it on every snow run I did this season.

I should actually move the Warn to the rear cause it'll probably get used more back there. :p:

Love the Bender mount :D

Love the Bender mount :D
bender.jpg

Hey meow! It worked great for 1.5" .120. :p: But this extra 1/4" is probably nearly twice as tough to bend. I had to get the ol' lady to stand on my plywood for a few bends. :D So I reinforced it with this ghettoness.

It's an old rock slider I never used. Works good enough! :p: :cool;

notcher.jpg

Here is the lower middle part being notced on the Pro Tools notcher. This thing is nice.

Use a notcher! So much easier!

Good enough for the girls I run with!

So, I think I'm going to slightly angle that piece towards the rear axle. Sound like a plan?

So far so good, IZ?

I'm thinking about doing the last outside tubes in 1.5". What do we think? Just to mix it up...

What's the torque converter for?

It's my spare 4r70w on the right. The one I have in the truck is the advance adapter'd one. The one on the ground is stock and I'll put in when I upgrade the tcase.

Ah ok, it looked like it was moving around during the build pics, I thought maybe you were doing something with it for the bumper build. And now that I looked again I realized it was your explorer that was moving.

Wanna Build me one! Damn I want a bender/notcher

Section That bumper is sweet. I may have to copy it some time.

Tim

Sides welded up. Those notches were a challenge.

Thanks guys. I'll have to see what two-way shipping would be on this thing. Probably a decent amount of $.

Tube caps are in. I think I'll do a little more flapping around the welds.
