Seriously getting ready for an Expedition..

Ive never seen their portable fridges but do they do caravan fridges? That could be an option as well for keeping things cold. Hook up a lpg or propane tank, no drain on the battery, 110v (?) if you are in a caravan park. Could be an option if you have the room, and usually a good price if bought s/h as long as it works.

...Caravans out here are called RV's...:D

..Their fridges are usually of a bit larger size and they don't handle offroad and angles offroad very well...I have been searching for fridges relentlessly when I get home at night in hopes I might get lucky with a great deal..:bounce:

..Unlike down under, we have very few companies that tend to the real outdoorsman...I personally feel that the rest of the big companies are overpriced and think outdoors is a luxury item to be paid for as so...Just my .02..

...One of the big outdoor companies REI (no fridges) actually invest their money against offroad enthusiast and promotes hiking and biking instead...:(

..Today I finally had a free moment and stopped by a mom and pops shop where I picked up my upgrade alternator from 95 to 130 amp...:biggthump
130_amp_alt.jpg

...With any luck I hope to be getting the 2 core radiator for the Ranger next week (my leak hasn't gotten any worse yet..:p:...The mom and pops shop has a lead on a company that may have one in stock...Fingers crossed as everything I have found only shows a single core option only for my truck...

I'm surprised not many hikers and bikers want portable fridges! I thought there'd be a huge market for those. That alternator's a ripper, it should sort out a dual battery set up or a monster deep cycle battery. Solar battery chargers are worth a look, but can be pricey and from what I've heard down here you can't beat a waeco. Thanks for the link to that rally you went to bloody awesome and looks like a great time.

P.s. on some of the big ticket items sometimes its worth goin' halves.

.....I might be able to run two deep cycles if I can get them together before this trip..;)

...I would love to go in halves but my co-pilot is cheap and makes me pay for everything..:(

..Fridge/Freezer Search...

....It looks like I might be leaning toward an Engel fridge...:dunno:

...I figure the ARB fridge is probably the best in it's class but I believe I can get something new/used more in my price range from Engel locally...

...I did run across some general portable fridge info and will post more here as my search continues...

...Differences and the Engel fridge info...

I prefer Engels...

Of course, one of those is not near the top of the list yet...

Fair enough mate, my co pilot is just as stingy, hahahaa, yeah theres only a poofteenth (tiny increment) between the top brands, I hope you guys find an early xmas bargain, I checked prices on ebay au and nearly fell off my stool. Bloody hell! Talk about pricey.

If i were buying a fridge right now I'd probably buy the ARB fridge because it has a few more features I like. It has an LED light and a digital readout on the thermostat as well as a separate fruit/dairy compartment.

With that said, Engel's are just as good and I'd have no problem buying one again as well, it's just a matter of preference and price.

Our fridge in the house went out earlier this year so while we were waiting for the new one to arrive, I plugged in my Engel and ran it for 3-4 days without a problem. It worked so good I had to turn the setting down to #2 because it was starting to freeze the contents...I had it on the #3 setting.

Dont forget your snake venom antidote packed in your 1st aid kits :)

While on that subject, do include some antiseptic rinse, plenty of gauze/tape, and some antihistamine/cortisone for bug bites.

and some antihistamine/cortisone for bug bites.

...Naa, everything out here is poisonous so we carry an "Epi" pen and a tourniquet...j/k...:D

...I do plan on updating my First Aid kit and may include some info later (small/medium size)

I'm putting together a new trauma kit. Once I gather all the contents, I can list the items and put up some pictures if anyone is interested.

I would love to have an Epi pen, but they are only available by prescription.:(

So go to the doctor explain what your doing and get him to write you a script.

...I almost forgot...

...ScottB, If you need me to pick up DB1's fridge for you let me know and I will get it up to your dad's house...;)

...I drug one of my Trasharoo's down to a customers house and they liked it so much they had me order 2 for them...They are going to use them to haul stuff to and trash from, tailgate parties...:biggthump

If you got some time to kill, there's some good write ups on this site:
http://www.adventureduo.com/

If you go into their older blogs, you can see how they are set up for camping, recovery and whatnot.

...As soon as you sign up to gift in the "Secret Santa"...:p:

...I will have most of the writeup posted in the performance lighting section this evening...;)

...I will also post here what items I picked up today for this trip...:D

DB1, is that Dave and Yoshin's personal site? I know they just got back from Utah before the Toy's for Tot's run..I recognize some of the other rig's and vendors that I met up with earlier this year in that page...I'm going to be back over to their shop Thursday to pick up some more Trasharoo's for others and maybe some other goodies...:D

...I picked up a Coleman Meadow Falls 8x7.5 3 person tant on sale for $40..Looks like this..

...Then I went to west marine and picked up the 6 fuse block...The 12 fuse block was to big for the Ranger...

...Looks like I found a rarely used 2 year old Norcold Tek II for $475, it's missing the 12v cord...
http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?no=68451F

...Any thoughts on it would help as I will be picking it up on Thursday...

I have read that they are noisy but that's all I have seen or heard about them. If its the same one as your link that sounds like a good deal regardless.

Ordered my 50qt ARB with transit bag this morning from Iron Pig Offroad, they were the best price I found.

Your tent looks nice, Coleman makes good stuff.

I carry an aluminum table with me on camping trips where I do not have a tailgate or trailer to set stuff on. They are nice and take up the same size as a camping chair in a bag. Here is a picture of mine from a trip I took to Mt Blanca Colorado where space was a premium in my Jeep. I think I brought it with me on the Mojave trip but didnt use it.

..First, show off (on your ARB fridge)...:mattmoon:...:p:

...It is the MRFT-60 model and it's also missing the baskets...:dunno:...Cord is about $89 bucks but I found a thread on Ih8temud which led me here for parts on most coolers...;)
