service engine soon light... immediately after oil change

went to a local ford dealer for an oil change/tire rotation today. after quoting me a bunch of things i cannot currently afford, i noticed that the service engine soon light was on all of a sudden.

is this the type of thing the dealer can switch on and off as they please? for example, to make it seem like you really do need the work they are suggesting?!?


all i know is the light wasn't on when i got there and was when i left.

hmm thats weird I don't believe they can make the check engine light turn on but with any OBDII reader you can make it turn off so what you should do is go out and buy an OBDII reader scan the codes that the PCM is giving and come back and tell us what you get you can get a cheap OBDII reader on ebay ohhh and is your vehicle a 2003 or newer you might need a CAN compliant OBDII reader
