I think it's sad that Sony thinks there are people who would associate Sony electronics with a local restaurant. I seriously doubt that there are people out there that would eat at that restauraunt and then not buy a Sony tv because they didnt like the food at the restaurant.

You're thinking too "cause and effect". Allowing multiple businesses to operate with the name "Sony" devalues the brand over time by changing the way consumers associate the name "Sony". When someone says "Sony" you think TV, high quality and high style electronics, something to achieve the ability to purchase something from Sony. Well, people that eat at Sony's Restaurant have an interruption in their association, they think "soup of the day". Sony has invested billions of dollars over the years to create that association in people's minds and should rightfully seek to protect it.
