I've got a 2001 explorer sport with manual trans. When I try to shift into 1st or reverse, it takes a significant amount of force, almost like I have to force it into gear. Ironically, when the rpms are up a bit, like when shifting into a higher gear, no real problem. Anyone have a similar problem? My clutch is fairly new, and it hasn't been slipping once I'm in gear. Anyone else have something similar start to happen?

Sounds like maybe a synchronizer is going out, that's what makes it easy to go from one gear to another..

thanks

Thanks. Have you dealt with this on yours?

It's sounds like the slave is going to me. It's THE most common problem with these transmissions.
Search our site for "slave cylinder" or "hard shifting" our similar terms and you'll have lots of info.
