I'm putting Superlift's 85151 shocks on my 97 Explorer and have a dumb, but cosmetic, question. The bar pin came already installed on the extension side of the shock which mounts to the cross member leaving the body of the shock down low. This is how I see other shocks installed in the pictures on this forum to. I was curious if the shock would function properly if I put it the other way, that way the boots would be down low. They are hydraulic shocks so I assume the orientation of the shock matters, but I'm not sure.

I think most shocks have a "the end up/down" arrow. From what I've heard, the fluids and valving doesn't work correctly when up-side-down. My new Rancho's have a "install this end down" with an arrow.
