I need to replace the front shocks on a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport.
I was wondering if shocks meant for a 2002 Sport Trac would fit as i cannont find shocks meant for the Sport.
Here are the shocks i'm looking at: Link

Guaranteed to fit. Great shock, I've been using Sensatracs (now OE Spectrum) at all four corners for the last 35k.
Great comfort shock albeit soft for those seeking a performance shock for improved handling. Keep in mind RWD (37177) and 4WD (37122) FRONT shocks have substantially different travel and valving specs. May also want to check RockAuto or Amazon for pricing, I find O'Reilly's one of the highest price auto parts stores locally. Consider replacing the rears, especially with the $50 VISA card rebate on four.
The 01-03 Sport has EXACTLY the same front end as the 2001-2005 Sport Trac .....NO difference.
They are totally different from the regular 4-door Explorer.

MONROE® “GET UP TO $100” PROMOTION (Offer Valid: February 22 – May 31, 2016)

You might want to check your local Advance Auto for availability, and use a coupon code.

Where I used to live in CO, they show $64.39 for two, using code TRT30...

I put the Monroe 37122s on the front my 98 4x4 and couldn't be happier. I know some folks don't like them but I do, and I'm the only one that matters.:D
Also, Monroe 58617 coil overs went on the rear to fix the inevitable Explorer butt sag. I paid $167 for all four from RA. Works out to $41.75/shock with the 5% forum discount.

EDIT: Current RA pricing is $89.89 for 58617 set and $32.79 ea for the 37122 fronts. Works out to $155.47 plus shipping.

They sure will. I replaced the shocks on my 03 Sport in January, pretty easy actually.

Does a '02 Sport have the roll stabilizer shock? The fifth shock?

^ Looking at Amazon's fitment guides, it's only used on 1997-2001 4 doors.

Amazon's great, but not for fitment accuracy. Aren't they a book seller? ;)

What do coilover shocks do the the ride? Stiff?

There are many coilover users on this forum. Reviews range from "firmer than OEM but controlled" to "stiff without a load".

Search Monroe 58617 on top of the page, seven pages of mostly stellar reviews. I'd have them if I wasn't lowered. LOL

The 58617's do stiffen the ride a bit, but the biggest reason I (and others) have put them on is to cure the rear leaf spring fatigue that plagues older Explorers. The rear end tends to sag over time. Some say the only correct way to cure this is to fit new leaf springs and/or shackles. That's probably true but the coil over shocks are less expensive and easier to install IMO.
