Nice care bears truck, but wrong vintage (pre-2006).

Yep. I've got the factory 20s that came with the Limiteds.

To be honest I generally hate large wheels too. I've got 3 sets of wheels for my Caddy and they are all the factory 18s. Big wheels make a car look too comical IMO. However, on a truck/SUV with a big fender opening, they do look appropriate.

I actually never paid much attention to the Explorer until I saw a silver Limited one day with the factory 20s. Caught my eye and that's when it got onto my radar.

I first noticed those rims on a limited the same color like yours from Alberta Canada (I knew because of the Alberta License Plates) with same 20" rims. Thats the first time I ever saw those type of rims on explorers.

20's on my Explorer

I've always have liked 20's...they look good, yet still provide a nice ride. I've ridden in a car with larger rims and trust me....it's a bumpy, jarring ride. Anything larger than that, and you may be asking for trouble. I don't really care for the tonka toys/ matchbox cars look. I've towed with them and have even traveled cross country with no problems. The key to upsizing your rims is making sure that as your rim size go up, the profile of your tires must go down so that they still match the original factory tire circumference. That way, you don't have to worry about your speedometer being off or better yet, so your truck doesn't show inaccurate mileage.

Jon04 - Thanks for the pics of your OEM 20's. Definetely one of the best looking wheels for the Explorer. 20's are close to ideal size IMO, anything bigger has too many sacrafices in terms of ride and handling.

btw - Is that a polished finish on the Limited 20's?

8" wide on 255/50R20. Funny thing is my winter rims are 8.5" wide.

The offsets must be different if they both look the same inside the wheel well.
Do you know the offset of the 8" non-winter wheels?

Not off the top of my head. They're OEM wheels, you could probably find it on the web somewhere.

Why do the "I hate 20s" person always have something to say and yet can never give a good explanation for their reasoning? I mean they don't really have to for that matter for they are entitled to their opinion and preference. Aren't those who opt for 20s or go out to buy them entitled to their opinion and preference as well? Better yet, if you don't like them, why view a post on them? Hmmmm. You may have a case of 20s envy. It goes around...spreads faster than the flu. At least there is a vaccine for the flu. I think people just don't know how many vehicles are coming off the line now with factory 20s or have them available as an upgrade. It's quickly becoming the new norm. I say live and let live.
