Headed up to the Sierra in a few days. Our base camp is at West Lake (about 40 min. from the town of Shaver). I sold the Jeep, so this year I'm taking the Explorer up to see how it does. Trails vary from easy to difficult, so we can pick and choose. So far it's me, 2 J##ps, and maybe 2 old Land Cruisers, and another possible Explorer. It's an annual thing, but everyone is kinda on there own to do what they please. I wouldn't mind more Explorers up there to do the trials with me and see how these things preform!!! email me at ron@4playoffroad.net for more info.

Project X

Ron,

I'm curious how you modified your '01 Explorer. What type of lift is on the rig? Is this a Sporttrac? I thought the '01 Explorers aren't able to be lifted? Fill me in on the details...

ken, it is a white 4 door explorer....

Specs!

I heard that the front axle shafts run through the engine, making it impossible to lift the '01 Explorers. So, I curious how this model X is being modified...

Ken, maybe you're thinking of the '02 Explorer. It has rear axle shafts that pass thru a hole in the frame, making it impossible to lift.

'01 vs. '02

I had the two model years confused. Sorry Jim for getting so worked up over those specs! I guess I take those lifts way too seriously. The '01 is the last model year that you could lift which is a total shame. I guess that will make it easier to cut off other shoppers to get that special parking place in front of the grocery store w/o overturning & causing accidents!
