I can't figure out how to adjust the parking brake on my 2002 Explorer Limited. I have a Chilton repair manual but the info in there is wrong. The manual says to remove the rubber plug in the backing plate and turn the brake adjusting wheel. The only rubber item around the parking brake is the seal boot where the brake actuating lever enters the backing plate.
Any ideas or help?
Thanks

Karl J

i took mine in and had it done. but they told me there is a little metal punch out behind the breaks you would have to punch out. it get replugged with a rubber plug. or you can just take rear rotors off and there is a screw that you turn to tighten them up.

There is some kind of adjustment spike that you need to turn in order to adjust the tightness.
(it's a circular piece but has spikes surrounding it, and I believe it's right on the top there,(once u remove the rotor) you MIGHT have to remove the brake pad shoes first in order to see the "spike" thing im talking about......but i cant remember.

It's VERY easy to do, once you got the rotors and **** off...lol

BTW: when i said brake shoe pads, i meant the plastic-like material that sits ON the metal shoes....not the metal shoe piece itself, haha....that it a HUGE pain to take off and put back on.
