Hi -
I'm new here but am finding lots of good info on these boards. I actually came across this place trying to find an answer to a specific question. Rather basic considering some of the cool mods/updates I've seen posted on here but I'm just not finding any info anywhere else. I've got a '98 XLT with factory "premium" tuner w/ cd changer in console. I'm trying to make an iPod work with this system by using the Peripheral PXFD98 (which can be seen here http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=614). This connects between the head unit and the cd changer adding three aux inputs and still maintains use of cd changer.
It was easy enough to install and I've put the "box" of this system in the glove compartment however, I'm having problems with the unit cutting in and out. At times it will work on start up and then mysteriously cut off at random times after (usually fairly short into the ride) - other times it won't even come on at all. Once not working you have to restart the truck to find out if it's working again yet. My first thought was a loose connection...so I've tried to make sure everything is tight - seems to be. Second thought was a short or broken wire someplace in the system - but when I move the unit/wires around I can't cause the unit to stop working. Seems like I'd be able to trigger the short by moving the unit around if it is sensitive enough to be triggered by a rather smooth ride to work. Someone suggested that it may be the cold but it's not been that cold - mid 20s at worst lately. This morning was about 25 and everything worked on start up - cut out about 30 secs later. When it cuts out, I lose both the iPod and the cd changer and get "NO CDDJ" or "CDDJ FAULT".
I realize this is a rather basic question given what you guys can do
but I'm getting frustrated with pulling the damn HU out of the dash and would like to find a solution to this problem. Any help or suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it!
thanks!
