Check all of your spark plug wires, sounds like one or more might be arcing. You can check by spraying water or some kind of non-flammable liquid onto the spark plug wires starting by the plugs and boots and working up. Best time to check is at night or in the dark so you can easily see the electric arc. Make sure that all of the wires ar properly seated on the ignition coil and use dielectric grease on all connections to prevent moisture from getting in.

Any check engine light or trouble codes? These parts have a great effect on how your engine runs and should be considered preventative maintenance. Early ST's are also known for leaking intake gaskets but usually throw lean DTC's.

Idle Air Control (Do this first and see if it solves the whining issue)

Throttle Body

Rather than removing the MAF sensor from the housing, just spray the wire filament thoroughly with
CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner or Electrical Contact Cleaner and let it dry. (Do NOT touch the MAF filament)

Also inspect the PCV elbow if you have the Job 2 engine. (Oil fill on passenger side)

I had a cracked spark plug wire. the egr burned thru the wire and caused it to sound like it was skipping.

my pcv elbow has a crack in it do u have to buy the whole hose and everything or can u just get the elbow

I bought the complete line with both elbows (front and rear) from the dealer for $28. Now I have a spare for when one of them go bad again plus the hard line.

Also, I haven't heard of a single failure after replacing with the OEM part, regardless of age or mileage. New and improved?

Cool, good to know.
