I took my Explorer into the transmission shop to have them check out a problem i was having and one of the repairs that need to be made is a new "INTERNAL slave cylinder" Is there a clutch slave cylinder on the inside of the transmission or is this refering to the general slave cylinder that should be on the outside.
Thanks,
Matt

Matt,
I have a 92 Ford Ranger 4.0L with the 5 speed. Yes, the slave cylinder is mounted inside the bellhousing and unfortunately this means dropping the tranny. In fact, I'm pulling mine out (again) to replace it this Saturday. Seems to have developed a leak after only 20,000 miles. After reading about the slave cylinder on the Ranger site, it seems they are notorious for failing early. Going for a different brand this time. Anyway, good luck with it!
