slow 2nd - 3rd shift

I have a 94 explorer that I've not had long and the trans has acted goofy from the start but I new this going in. It has set for a while and driven seldom before that. I've not changed the fluid yet but have driven it to work daily for about 6 weeks. It shifts better now that I have drove it. It changes good 1st - 2nd and 3rd - 4th. The 2nd - 3rd shift is like it's dragging to change. It's like it gets stuck between shifts, it don't seem to be as bad when it's in drive as to OD. Any ideas what to check when I change the fliud and filter.

I would have it flushed out. Changing the filter and fluid will help, but the best thing is to flush the system completely. They pump fluid through it to help clean the crap out of the trans while flushing the convertor and the cooler(s) as well.

I would start there and expect possible trans work in the future.
