Smashing Pumpkins Early

Ok, not really a Halloween post.

But, last friday night I busted my front differential(pumpkin). I did it while trying to power up a hill out at the creek.

Here's some pics...

I think just a couple of tubes of JB Weld and it will be as good as new. :D

Damnit!! You can't give your own punch lines, that's our job!! :D

Was the front off the ground, then hit when powered up? That thing just crumbled!

If you're gonna kill it mine as well do it right

That will go nicely on the trophy shelf with a few of your busted CV joints. :D

So the carrier is fine, and the gears are just a bit chewed up. Aluminum housing and bearing caps :thumbdwn:

Yeah, yeah. I want that too, but as always it's a money issue. I'm pretty sure I wanna use the late 70's fullsize Dana44/Ford 9" axles.

As far as the cause of the cracks. I'm thinking it might have been the drain plug me and friend installed on the diff cover the other weekend. The plug ended up really close to the front cross member. And I'm theorizing that the axle assembly moves under stress(all 3 bolt holes go through bushings) and the plug got shoved up against the crossmember causing too much stress for the case.

Damn John... I could only see the one crack while it was still under the truck.. that thing went into pieces.

I guess we know what the clicking noise was....and you'll be lookin for a new ring/pinion.

I also managed to break something the next nite. I snaped my front right axle, and managed to damage both the inner and outter axle. I'll get pic's soon ;) I just hope I've got a spare laying around here somewhere.

Two thumbs up and 3 snaps in a circle. :D

Take that back to Ford and ask what's wrong???

:navajo:

:exp: :D :p

Damn..

dang john, thats all i have to say

Happy Halloween! :exporange

Damn, that's a whoops that would even make Derrick proud!

Can't afford the sas? How can you not? I've saved a ton over the last year by not buying bearings, spindles, rotors, hubs, bushings, cracked frame, and leaking diff.

I put another D35 ******* back in, but it only cost me $150.

I would love to do SAS, but I've had a hard year. Laidoff in June. Took me over 2mo to find the next job and it pretty much pays about half of what I made before. I'm lucky I still have the truck. I just take things day by day.

Man they just dont build them like they used too do they :)

Hey John - Good job with the front diff.

Danas?? What happened to the Mog axles you were gonna swap in there???

How hard was it to pull out the front axle? And don't say easy as picking up the pieces!!
