Ok I been readin alota stuff just on some basic home grown upgrades here so far.I've done the tps adjustment,gained maybe 1-2 mpg,better throttle response,tonight I removed the horn from the air cleaner and added some additional holes into the air box,took for a road test and I don't think this thing has ever had that much get up and go.Now I checked for wide open throttle and with my daughter helping me I had her hold the pedal to the floor,throttle plate lacks maybe a 1/16" from flat open,would it be worth the hassle of standin on my head to get the little it lacks back to actual wot?
This is a 98 4.0 OHV.Also I am wondering what would be a good replacement spark plug wire.I'm sitting at just over 100k on the factory wires.I've changed the plugs with the oe double platinums motorcrafts,Old plugs had just under 90K.I already have changed my oil to a full synthetic about 45k ago.An actual air cleaner upgrade is in the works also.

Mine wasn't that far off,the big difference I noticed better throttle feel off idle.I didn't have to drill anything either.So try movin it with out drilling it first.I never really got all that bad a gas mileage on average I'm at about 300 miles a tank.For me thats a fill up every 3 days.So I'm trynig to stretch it even further.

Service the brakes and wheel bearings, even if not worn out (and often times even if they were just replaced) they probably could stand a good clean and lube, do the auto hubs too while you are at it ... if the brakes or bearings are dragging it'll cost you MPGs ...

Remove the roof rack if you don't use it, every little bit helps

Make sure your u-joints are in good shape, they too can create drag and cost you MPG's ... basically anything that turns as you go down the road should be serviced, cleaned and greased

None of these things makes a drastic difference alone but together you might gain a mile or two per gallon ... in the worst case if they weren't causing drag it'll at least keep you from losing MPGs down the road in the near future ... Ford front disc brakes are notorious for sticking and dragging, I clean and grease mine every year and haven't had a warped rotor in over 15 years or more

I'd go with the Motorcraft wires. They're not horribly priced as long as you avoid the dealership. I paid $45 for mine at O'Reilly Auto Parts.
