at work. And being as i work for a shock company now (one of the big names in offroad) I took a strut off tonight and ima make some coilovers for the rear of it over the process of the next week. Then the fronts hopefully next week.

I want to get it all done and handling pretty good for when we go to mexico for the baja 1000 this year. Its gunna be holding about 400 pounds in the far back of tires and tools, and another 200 or so on the roof. So Its gunna be a bit more topheavy. So im gunna account for that. wich will be fine when the weights not there cause its always full of people anyways...

Pics coming tomorrow. The hardest part is gunna be making mounts that use the stock coil buckets. But it just time consuming, not hard.

New upper control arms are coming for upfront too. There too damn easy to pay anything more than 300$ for. Hoping to get a 2 inch travel bumpstop in the rears too. It SLAMS when there's 7 people in it offroading:D

VIVA LA DOING IT YOURSELF!!!!!

If i do manage to get em to work. Ill make a thread on how to do it yourself. and what parts i used.

Rock on guys!

edit= Picture of how she sits right now!

that is what i wanted to do for the longest time. just make like eye holes that the shock could mount to and a bolt pattern that would bolt up to the stock shock mount

Isn't that pretty much what it has already? The coil over shock and coil over strut sound basically the same to me.

This is what I would be interested in seeing....there is an obvious interest in some aftermarket upper arms for lifted/offroad 3rd gens.

You can revalve and tune the shocks im putting in mine.

In theory, same thing yes. But with the shocks im going to put in it ill be able to adjust my preload and compression and alot of other things.

PLUS, Ill be able to add lift or take away lift etc. and there will be pretty blue springs under there:D

Youll see, I got alot accomplished today at work.

Now its time to go back out to the garage and see if what i did today is gunna work.

keep us updated if i could get 3 inches of suspension lift i would jump on it

OH, that sounds like a HUGE improvement! Keep us posted, I may be interested in a kit!

well, the stuff i did at work was pointless.. Its a tighter fit in the rear than i thought!

Im gunna have to machine some custom rod ends and do some custom lengths on parts.

Im still pressing on though! Not gunna give up.

keep it going haha you have the access to the stuff you need to do it so get her done.

thats what i mean about a 3 inch suspension lift. the spacers just move the suspension down i want 3 inches of lift with usable travel in the front. the rear i'm more then happy with but the front needs a little work. i don't mind one bit how stiff the front end is with the spacers but the wifee hates it lol

these things could be used to accent a Roadbully lift to make clearance ?
or is this even a concern ?
cause if they worked, a little more lift on this gen and 35's would be cool,

i already fit 35s under my mounty with RB spacers and a body lift but my issue is i would rather more travel and the wifee a softer ride.

these would be used in place of the rb spacers because half shafts can only go so far down. i wanna have a shop build a cage to drop the diffs and cnotch the rear frame to get rid of the port hole

IMO, the only way to get a decent amount of lift and ride quality on these will be with a custom upper and a bolt-in coilover. even better would be a lift spindle/upper arm combo.

i'm not the best with computers but why not make a bracket like this that mounts to the stock strut tower so we can adapt a coilover shock just like the shocks on the dune buggys you have in the pics. i have never designed any suspension stuff so what do you think?
shockmount.jpg

then for the lower why not a mount that bolts where the stock shock bolts up then have a plate that gets welded to the top of the lower arm right where the shock comes out of that hole there. if you don't under stand what i'm saying i'll do another paint picture thing haha

Thats the goal for upfront, minus the spindle. Its 4x4...

Just trying to do coil overs in the rear.

Running into a lot of.... Inconveniences to say the least.

what kind of troubles are you running into? maybe we could throw you some ideas.

why not do the same for the front?

here was my idea for the front or rear lower mount

that would work in theory.

But you just took away all the room for the shock body, and travel.

so now instead of 18 inches eye to eye, you have 12. (guesses)

and that wont work. Thats my problem.

nice x u got there

anything would be better then the was 3 inches of travel we have now but then you could adjust your shocks. see i think we could use more down travel but any more going up or you are gonna rip apart your wheel well. when i had the 265s they would hit the top ofthe wheel well if the suspension fully compressed
