I attempted to tint my tail lights this afternoon and they came out decent, but not the perfect glass like finish I was hoping for. I'm looking now for a new set of lights because I'm really not happy with the tinted stock ones. Does anyone know where I can get a set of black or smoked taillights that don't look mega gay and ricey? That seems to be all ebay has. Thanks

I believe there is a company that sells films for the headights and taillight that might look like what you were hoping for. Otherwise if I were you I would get the LED ones that look stock.

I wound up getting the second ones. I'll post some pics when I get em.

yea i like the 2nd ones better ... should look awesome ... the red leds just "scream" too much for me lol

Yeah, I'm curious to see how they match up to my plastics.

BTW I'll post a pic of my nightshaded ones tomorrow.

Alright, So here's the pics. The taillights are kind of rough, that's why I ordered new ones. I also think the smoked lenses will look a lot better against the gray plastics. I also wound up painting the grille black last night in the dark and I think it came out really nice. It still doesn't match the plastics but at least now its black which matches other things instead of like vacuum cleaner plastic gray which matched nothing. Let me know what you guys think.

They dont look bad, just a little bit of orange peel. A quick nib and buff and your are done. With a little more work they will look great.

I might try to clean em up later and see if they'll shine a little more. I'm still not crazy about the way they don't match the bumper at all.

If you put enough material down, those tails will shine like glass when polished. I wouldnt worry about matching the bumper. The lights will tie in great with the tinted glass when you are done.

Now by material are we talking about rubbing compound?

Material meaning the amount of paint. Did you put at least two good coats of paint? You need enough paint on there so when you polish you dont break through. Its easy to break through on any edges so be careful.

Lightly scuff any dust out if needed and hand polish. Something like meguiars cleaner wax would work fine.

How about these I got these a couple weeks ago couldnt be more happier, they look ten times better there brighter and there already smoked.

I like those, they're similar to the ones I ordered. Hopefully mine look as good.

I like the ones you ordered. I always wanted to order the first set for my X because I had a red one and liked the way it blended in but I went through 3 taillights on my explorer from backing into my mailbox.

The Nite-Shades turned out great in my opinion...

Was expecting much worse based on your description! I would keep em'!

Try looking for altezza taillights.. I have some on my 2nd gen.

I have pics. Of mine if you search in my threads for buildup of the orangeploder..

I'll check ebay here in a minute..
