'95 Explorer Expedition
Hey all, I just bought a 95' Explorer expedition sport track 4wd a couple of weeks ago. Im going to start doing some basic maintenance on it soon.

It has some rust in the grooves on the roof where the paint is peeling a little bit and there are a couple of places where the paint is peeling a little bit but hasnt started rusting yet. My friends dad knows a ton about vehicles and is a great mechanic so i showed the spots to him and he suggested i remove the rust with a wire brush on a rotary tool or some sandpaper. He said that i should put some kind of stuff on it to prevent rust.. its called chassis saver (spelling?). Also next week i am going over to a friends house to change all fluids and filters because i bought it used (obviously) and i want to start on a clean schedule so i know when everything needs to be changed.

I have a question, well several actually, first off, when i shift into reverse the car kind of slams into gear.. Well slams isnt quite the right word, maybe its just really rough going into gear, you can definitely feel it shift. Does anyone know what that could be?

Also what could i do about the peeling paint problem?

And finally the drivers side door wont lock. I press the little "stick" thing down, but when i pull the door handle it still opens. I also cant lock that door with the key so i think it might be the linkage inside of the door, sure hope so, cause that would be a relatively easy fix.. Thanks for any help!

ummm first off.. what vehicle do you have...? an explorer, an expedition, or a sport trac???? or is it an explorer sport(2dr)

the trans sounds like a strange issue, id say do a tranny flush first.

for the paint, do what he said, sand it off, and apply a rust resistant primer, then paint it.

pull off the door panel, and you should be able to find out whats wrong.

Tranny actually sounds fine.. most do kinda jerk when you put into gear and out.. mine does.. I've never had any issues.. and I offroad hardcore... when you take off the door shell be careful not to break any of the christmas tree clips. they're a B*&%# too get out....

I have a Explorer sport but the badge says Expolrer Expedition sportrack. Anyways, i am gonna flush the tranny later this week. When i shift into reverse it takes a few seconds (maybe 3-4) and then "jumps" into gear pretty roughly. It sounds like there might be a bit of grinding, but it definately jumps into gear weirdly.

Once i get all of the basic stuff done and some money saved up (hopefully) im gonna start mods like exhaust and an intake system.. luckily im getting introduced to a buch of mechanics and hopefully they'll help me out because at the apartments i live at, we arent allowed to do any car work in the parking lot. I guess so people dont spill oil and the like all over?

good to hear about the tranny.
with the door, i cut the clips off with a hacksaw to make removal easier lol, then just buy a new set at napa for like $2.

Oh, by the way, my friends dad also said that they have some kind of special tool you can buy to remove those door panel clips.. i think he said autozone should have them.

haha ok i will.. i was reading on wiki that the expedition badge was used in place of eddie bauer for the 1995 Explorer Sport model only because it was reused the next year for the actual epeditions.. ill try to get that pic up.. photobucket works on here right?

Ok, im gonna try posting some pics lets see if they work!

Hey.. its the control trac 4wd, thats what mine has, it just means it's you have the auto 4wd, if you begin to slip the computer puts you in awd.
