I have a few questions as a new X owner which I feel would probably be best answered here by people with real experiences.

1.) The transmission sticks from 2nd to 3rd, especially running it cold. (I've read this being a somewhat common issue with these 1st gen X's) Does anyone have any definitive fixes for this issue or understand the cause of it?

2.) I've looked around and haven't really found any after market intake systems for the 1st gen X's. Does anyone know of a company that makes a good intake for the 4.0L? (I've seen the DIY threads around here, but I'd prefer to get something more reliable than PVC pipe.) Would some of the Mac intakes for the 2nd gen fit onto my 4.0L OHV, perhaps?

3.) When in Overdrive, if I accelerate heavily, the whole car rumbles fairly loudly. Is this a red flag or is this normal and no cause for concern? This is my first automatic, so overdrive is new to me. :(

4.) Any other suggestions for increasing the fuel economy of my X?

I've dealt with Hondas most of my life, but after my favourite toy was stolen and practically destroyed, I'm kind of soured. I bought an X as a temporary replacement, but I've fallen in love with how it looks, drives, feels and how practical it is in moving things around.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Thanks,
Josh

Not an epert but got some experience with the tranny. You could try adjusting the kickdown cable.. It is located on the driver side fire wall, going to your gas peddle..Under the hood on the firewall you will see a grey plastic thing I believe, which has a metal piece in it that is shaped like a d, push that down as far as you can while pulling out on the cable itself... Once you got the slack out, get in the truck an step on the gas peddle all they way.. Its adjusted now.. I had to do this on mine an cleaned my maf sensor an it helped but still sticks.. If it still does it for you I'm pretty sure its the governor on the tranny... There is info on where its located an able to clean an polish it to see if that cure it .. Hoped I could help some

For number 2, kurtz kustomz makes a partial intake kit, its basically a maf adapter, cone filter, and mount. you can find it at www.kustomz.com

For number 4, check to see which gears you have in the rear end. It is designated by an axle code on the drivers side door on the sticker, and match it up here. http://www.explorerforum.com/ntrprize/Axle.htm This will give you a baseline idea of what you should be getting for mileage, and if you aren't, then a full tuneup should be done. A higher gear (4.10) usually gives lower mileage, but is good for moving bigger tires. A smaller gear (3.08) is exceptionally good for mileage (especially on the highway), but won't have very good acceleration.

Thanks for the info, especially on the intake and gear ratios. I'm probably going to see about having my tranny flushed and see if that does anything.
