spare tire mount stuck

This may be a silly question but I just bought my 95 explorer and it seems that the spare tire mount is stuck--the cord will only move about two inches either way.

Is it easy to get at the mount to fix it? In other words, how much will I have to remove to get at it? Has anyone else had this problem?

At the dealership we just use a cut off tool and cut the cable and replace the spair tire mount.

Well once the Tire is removed, it is simple to get and and simple to take out, only 2 bolts hold it in. You could cut the sne off the cable, and then slide everything off the cable, and get a cable clamp for when your ready to put everything back in place.

Thanks. Yeah, I removed it and am now
waiting on a part from the dealer.
$80! If they just would have used
bolts rather than rivets I could have fixed
it myself and attached a new cord.
