Would the sound be distorted at all if I put the speakers in the same box. My plans are to have the sub inside the box behind a piece of glass. The box will have vents on the sides. I heard that if you put the speakers in the same box as the Sub(s) it may distort the sound from the vibrations. Is this true?

Plans are something very close to this put the speakers will be on the sides of the box and not surrounded by glass.

prefab boxes like that sound like crap...pretty much 90% of all prefab boxes sound like crap.

What subs do you have or want to get???

Never put speakers in the same box as a sub. The pressure from the sub will kill them (keep pushing and pulling them back and forth more than they are meant to and rip the surround). They will also distort like crazy and you will only MAYBE get some highs out of them. Why would you want to add speakers in the back anyways? They're gonna be muffled from travleing all the way up. Plus you want the sound stage in the front, not the back.

Is this for your Sport? Why not just put the rear speakers in the stock locations?

Bandpass boxes like the one in your pic CAN hit hard (in a very narrow frequency range), IF the sealed volume and port length are correct for the subs going in it. 99% of the time for prefab, they're the wrong dimensions. I'd skip the showy plexiglass stuff and just go for a pair of subs in a sealed box, or if you want ports, get subs made for ported enclosures, and get a box with ports you can cut to the right length. Custom is usually best though, if you get your stuff from a real stereo shop, they can build you an enclosure that fits in the back to save space, but is the right volume for the subs so you're getting the max output.

actually designed correctly 4th order bandpasses can have a pretty wide frequency response and sound good...its just most people don't know how to design them.

I want to get 2 10" subs.

I wanted to have 2 6x9 speakers in the trunk (those where what I was askin about in the Sub box) and then speakers in the factory made areas. Yes, this is for a Sport.

If my scanner was working, I would upload my plans.

Can you build your own enclosure??? If not than I'd go with a sealed box.

Oh yea, I can build it myself. Infact I am very excited to build it myself. I would buy one prebuilt but because of the confined trunk space in the Sport, I want to build it myself to maximize trunk space. It will actually fit into the passanger's side corner against the city. The front will be on an angle. The entire thing will end up being like a trapizod shape.

The only problem is that they are bigger than almost any other box, so it is opposite of whta he's looking for. You can make it a bit smaller by using two drivers in a isobaric setup, but (like you said) harder to design and build.

Why 6x9's in the back? More speakers other than the 2 in the front doors and 2 in the side panels isn't going to sound better. If anything, it's going to sound worse with highs coming from the back. Not to mention the issues with adding another amp to drive more than the usual 4 speakers and 1-2 subs.

If you want to maximize space, why not get a Q-logic box for the factory sub location? They make a box for a 10, and you can get a really good 10, have lots of bass, and a clean install without losing any cargo space. JL audio makes a stealthbox for the application, too. You could even build your own box for the factory location.
