BII's kick ass! They are so much fun to drive and wheel great, HOWEVER
If I was to do it over again I would build a Gen I Explorer Sport, perfect wheelbase for trails, BII is just a bit too short (93"), a solid axle can help in this department.

do the newer brocno II 89-90 have d28s or d35's?

some 89-90 BII's did have a D35 front but they are rare.
I have also seen factory 4.0L BII's and BII's with a 8.8 rear.
