Sport transmission problem

My 98 Sport SOHC has some problem with the auto transmission.

Twice it has not gone into the last gear--then the OD light has started to flash. I can still push the OD button to take it in & out of OD, but it won't shift into the last gear. As far as I can tell, it has only happened when cold.

I have disconnected the battery to reset the computer and then it drives JUST FINE! I don't mind doing this, but resetting the radio & clock is a problem.

Shifting is smooth; reverse is fine; fluid level just fine; replaced trans filter & fluid 18 months ago.

Any ideas before I let the Ford techs have a look at it?

18 months is a long time. Have you had it flushed since you've owned it? How many miles on the tranny?

If you're lucky, could be a problem with your Alternator or TPS. Those both have a hand in shifting. Also may be loose valve bodies too. There is a TSB for this problem. The only way to know for sure is to have the tranny codes run...
