Hi all,

I live in East Tn and have a problem with a '01 explorer sport with a sagging rear. I have read alot about how to fix. I was wondering if anyone has ever had the rear leafs re-arched? Instead of buying new ones or air bags?

Thanks for your time,
Alan

Sports have a monoleaf, rearching is not possible , as they are fiberglass,

Thanks for the super quick response!!

weird, mine has a 4pak metal spring on each side not mono. Im the second owner and I knew the first owner that had it and he never did anything to them or had them replaced. ?????????????????????? what now??

I looked at a LMC link that someone posted and it gives two options for leafs. 3 pak and 4 pak. I would like to know if anyone has ever had their springs re-arched and how that's worked for them.

The 01 sports did come with leaf packs. Honestly the LMC ones from what I heard are made from very soft metal. I would take the truck to a spring shop and find out the cost of getting them re-arched vs getting softer springs from LMC. Another viable option is to get F150 or even Chevy 63" leaf spring packs

Thanks Blee!

Im going to check with a shop here in town tomorrow and if its more than 3bills Im going with the air bags...

getting the springs re-arched first thing in the morning. will update how it goes...

OK,
the shop added one leaf to each of the leaf packs on each side, took about an hour and it was down on the ground. It looks perfect! Rides like it used to! If anyone needs advice about this problem............ just add a leaf to your existing springs, sooooooo easy.

cost? $80 for two leafs & $80 installation labor =$160 If I would have had a garage I would have taken them off myself and saved $80....

oh nice.. cuz this is the same problem that i am having with mine right now. so add a leaf worked.. thats good to know.. beats buying new ones. haha

Doing a add a leaf is okay for budget minded people. A friend just had a spring pack re-arched and rebuilt and it cost him $300 a piece. They basically took apart his leaf pack and changed out some of the leafs and also heat treated them. From what I heard the springs basically have a memory if you heat them hot enough they loose their "memory" and you can basically re-shape them once it reaches a very hot temperature.

That's what they did on mine. They dropped the leafs out, split them apart, added the extra leaf, reassembled the leaf pack and re-installed the leaf springs with new u-bolts.
