sputtering at 3k RPMs while in park

I am having an issue with my 2002 Explorer sport v-6 4.0. When it is in Park and I rev it up to 3k plus RPMS it sputters and the check engine light is one also. It only happens while in parking not while in drive. If any of you have any ideas as to what it could be please reply.
