i'm new here. my 2000 exploder with 4.0 sohc died on me on the way back from work a few days back. had half a tank but acted like it was starved. back at the house, i changed fuel filter but no change. filter gas ran black. could the pump in tank be cause? i had a pump die 5 years back. major flaw in otherwise v. good design. it just quit though. now it will start, try to run but then sputter badly after just a few seconds and then die. i can hear pump come on when i first turn key but when i press the port on the fuel distribution bar, it spurted but quickly ran dry. any ideas?

Check fuel rail pressure, an auto parts place with a loaner tool program should have a pressure gauge, like Autozone. I am assuming it's not something silly like being out of gas. A stuck float on the sender unit can give a false high fuel gauge reading.

hi,my 1998 exploder,just started to spudder,but no stall,any ideas?

Could very well be the fuel pump, but as J_C stated, best way to know for sure is to check the fuel pressure at the rail with a fuel pressure gauge. A 2000 should be showing about 65-67 PSI w/key ON.
