I searched but did not find an answer to fix this problem, other than to replace the springs. When I step into my '94 Explorer the rear leaf spings squeak. I can stand outside the truck and rock the truck back and forth and the springs squeak loudly.

Is there a fix for this without replacing the leaf springs? The truck has 75k on it.

Thanks.

Do your spring leaves have the rubber pads on the ends? I would try shooting some WD40 on the bushings then in between the leaves to see if the squeak goes away. You may want to only spray a one place @ a time to find out where the noise originates from so you can concentrate on only that area.

I will have to look at the leaf springs tonight to see if I have the rubber pads.

I will try the WD40 tonight.

Thanks.

Actually, the pads are a hard plastic and installed at the tips of each leaf. WD40 will only be a temporary solution. Once the oil dries up, the squeak will return. I have the stock leaf springs out of my truck with most of the pads in place and in decent condition. If you feel like disassembling your leaf packs to fix the squeak, let me know. You can have the pads.

Dave.

Wow, thats crazy, I just noticed mine doing that today!!

I believe you can purchase replacement bushings for the leaf springs. Not sure where to get them though.

squeeks

Are you absolutely sure the squeek is from the spring pack? I though the same thing about my 99 till someone told me (on this forum!) to lube up the rear sway bar link ends. Squeek gone!!!!! I do have to lube it up with spray white lithium grease about every two months, but it is a small price to pay for quitness. I also do the front upper A arm mounts.

No, I guess I am not absolutely sure it is the leaf springs. So lube the rubber grommet like things where the rear sway bar connects to the smaller link?

I will try this, I'll have to go get some white lithium grease today.

Thanks.

Yes, the rubber grommet area where the sway bar end attatches to the rear suspension link. You can use any type of lubricant that is safe for rubber. I used spray silicone at first. Works great but only last about a month before the squeek comes back. White lithium spray grease ($4.00) in a can lasts longer. completely soak the area with lube and go for a ride to see if the squeek goes away. Make sure to do both ends of the sway bar and soak it good. Not sure if this is your squeek problem, but its definitely worth a try.

silicon spray

Well, I greased everything up and I still have squeaking. I'm heading to Sears so they can look at/replace my Monroe Sensatracs because that appears to be where the noise is coming from. It can't be anywhere else. I also didn't use lithium grease but normal grease (Coastal brand) so I know it's greased well.
