I'm guessing you'll have to remove the spare tire and route it straight down the middle...

Spare tire and the trailer hitch. I've seen it done and have a pic somewhere. When I have my comp with me I'll post it for you. I've thought about this set up for my EB as well.

I have had this setup on my Explorer for a few years now. I routed my underneath th reese hitch cuz I tow my car around in the summer

Cant wait to see the pics 'cause I'm not sure what this set up looks like.

The Jeep SRT8 is everything my Explorer dreams to be:(

Here's a picture for those who are curious-

You dont see to many exhaust set ups like that. 6.1 lt hemi donk - serious grunt. All it needs is a 3" lift, 33" mudders and remove the front bumper and your ready for Baja or Dakar.

heres what im going for, just would like to see any under chassis pics on how people have it routed

Thats going to look sweet as mate.

THAT is a sexy exhaust!! I may look into that for when ever i get around to this 5.4L swap...

If my WS6 didnt belong to my gramps, i would totaly consider trading it in towards the purchase of an SRT-8 Cherokee...400+ hp and AWD = awesome.

they are pretty sweet we just sold ours... stock it runs about 402AWHP and with minor bolt ons...exhaust...intake...cat delete..and a decent tune we saw ours at 451AWHP..my husband did most of the work and had it tuned after mods...if it wasnt so terrible on gas and high payments we woulda kept it.. they are fun..even for the ocasional woman driver getting into the whole modding scene...aka me..;)

Just did mine today, I don't know if im happy with it.

Looks good, what do you not like about it?

All explorers have a receiver hitch for a reason.. its the main structure / bumper for the rear!!

My wife was rear ended a couple months ago.. explorer was unscathed.. the BMW that hit her had a nice square puncture in his front bumper. Without it, The X would be in for major repairs.

If you remove it, even the smallest rear ender will do major damage. Then, wait till your insurance company realizes you removed it... could mean non coverage.

Now don't take this the wrong way, I think that the exhaust exiting there looks amazing!! I love it. Maybe a custom "bridge" could be made to replace the hitch and still allow the tail pipes to exit. Could also be a bracket for the tail pipes.

can we get a picture of how the exhaust is routed underneath

You are totally correct, the hitch is the main bumper support. I don't suggest chopping up your x and a rear end hit will cause a whole lot more damage.....
On the insurance part I have always had custom cars and if someone hits you its most likely their fault and the insurance has always covered, guy drove down the side of my car once with no insurance and my own policy covered shaved door handles, fiberglass vented fenders, custom front bumper, and repaired the custom paint.
But anyway this mountaineer is paid for and its my custom ride, I am going to chop, weld, paint, remove whatever it takes to make it cool. :D

Johnathan, how did you route your piping and are you running a muffler?, i was thinking of hacking right before the stock muffler and running it straight down and then throing a flowmaster 40 or something of that sort about right where the spare would be and then running it to a tip?

OK please don't make fun of my homemade exhaust here, I was afraid to post this but what the hell, I could never get of work in time to get to the good exhaust shop and some fool at Meineke quoted me $290 to go from above my axle and into a Y...... I seriously laughed and told them no thanks, so a with few pieces of Auto Zone exhaust pipes I made a Y and connected to the existing exhaust myself....... when some more money comes around I will make it to that exhaust shop (you know the one where bud is standing there with a Marlboro in his mouth saying "cats? no we don't mess with pets here.... just pay cash and we are good) and run duals Im going to run something like a prochamber up front them mount the mufflers in the back since I have plenty of room now without the spare.
