STA on 22's

Finally found a set I liked and pulled the trigger.
Ended up getting Niche Concourse 22's.
The shop I am dealing with recommended going with a staggered look.
22"x9" in the front and 22"x10.5 in the rear.
Running Nitto 265 40/22 420S tires all around.
Front offset is 15 and rear is 20.

The 10.5" rear wheel gives it a nice concave look which I really like!

Now while I like the staggered look with the concave rear wheel and almost straight front wheels the rear tire is stretching to fit the 10.5" wheel.

This look maybe some peoples preference but I am on the fence if I like it.

The shop I am dealing with is great!
They are willing to either swap the rears for 9" wide which will match the fronts exactly or swap for a larger tire in the rear so the stretching is reduced or goes away.

The problem with the larger tire in the rear is it will possibly stick out from the fender further?

So my 3 choices are:
1) leave as is
2) replace rears with the 9" width to match the front and lose the concave look.
3) go with either a 285 35 or 285 40 so the side wall isn't ballooning.

What do you guys think?

I would run the same size on all four. There is too much outside of the fenderwell on the rear. Just my opinion.

And that was exactly my reaction and comment to the shop when I first saw it mounted.
Not my cup of tea!

The problem is I do like the concave look in the rear.

So I Spoke to the shop this morning and inquired about a different offset (35) to pull the wheel in further.
They think it is doable but wont have an answer for me until Monday.

If the 35 offset is an option I plan to go with the 285 40 to reduce the ballooning look of the side wall.
This setup should make the rear even with the front based on the information from willtheyfit.com

Using the calculator I plugged in the front wheel specs as Existing and used 10.5 width and the 35 offset as the New.

The Front would be 1mm further out then the rear. Wouldn't even be noticeable.

If the 35 offset isn't an option it will be 9's all around.
I will lose the concave look but it isn't the end of the world.

First off...your STA looks great! Makes me really wish I would have bought/found a STA instead.

As much as I like the staggered look on a truck, your rear's current offset of 15mm with the 10.5" is just too aggressive. Running a 285 will definitely poke the rears out too much with the current setup. If you end up running a 35mm, with a 285, it will be a near flush fit compared to the front (-.9mm which is negligible).

If it were me, I'd run 15mm all around with 265/45/22 to give a bit more sidewall. This won't place too much stress on the TC because all four tires have the exact same circumference.

One a side, note, it's a shame that we cannot get lowering springs. The sag you have from the weight of your tires/rims being in your bed makes the rear end look so damn good.

Are you saying the 35mm offset won't resolve it because of the 285 width?

Btw, I haven't given up on the springs yet so no 45 sidewall for this STA. Eibachs are a no go but there may be an option

It's going from 20mm in the rear to 35. So moving in 15mm (0.59 inches).
15mm is the front wheel offset.

Do you work with wheels or tires?
Your description of the 285 tire as more "square" is exactly what the shop said.
I prefer the flat sidewall or even a pinched look over the stretched.

I missed the 20mm part. Irregardless, the 35mm offset for the rears should work fine and look acceptable.

No, I don't work for a wheels or tires, just very **** when it comes to proper wheel/tire fitment. I've just read/seen too many horror stories of people running the wrong offset, hub sizing, spacing, etc...

It has me wondering about the 275/45-22 front and 285/45-22 on the 10.5 rear.
I hope you don't mind posting your pic.

The shop confirmed the 10.5" 35 offset was available so we are going to switch up the rear and change the tires in the rear to 285/40.
The shop tried talking me into 285/35 but I declined saying I would prefer a slightly taller rear tire In comparison to the front instead of a slightly smaller rear tire.

According to Nitto's website...
The front diameter is 30.35.
The rear diameter of the 285/40 is 31.14 (0.79 taller then the front).
The 285/35 diameter is 29.80 (0.55 shorter then the front).

Not sure what anyone else thinks but I feel that would have been a mistake

I went with the oem 2011 explorer 20 inch wheels with the 255/50R20 tires i like them cause it looks like it came with the truck but those 22's with the adrenaline package makes the truck look very aggressive, nice ride dude!

Likibow - How did you get the Explorer wheels to fit your ST? I understand the hub diameter is smaller.

Thanks! It should of been resolved today. The correct offset wheels came in but the wrong tires were delivered.
I was hoping to have it wrapped up today but now have to wait until next Saturday. No big deal really. Just anxious to see it done!

yes the hub diameter is smaller on these wheels i'm using 6mm wheel spacers 1 for each wheel and bought extended thread lug nuts works perfect
