As I believe everyone knows, you can't start an Explorer or any new car that is a manual transmission with the clutch out. The Toyota Tacoma has a button you can push to disable that feature so you can start your car with the clutch out and the shifter in neutral. Is there a kit to put one of these switches in an explorer? Is there a wire that you can add a switch to that will disable this? I don't want it to be disabled all of the time but I would like to be able to turn it off if I need to.
Thanks,
Matt

Humm, I have never thought of that before. Would work great for offroad in low range. I am sure there is a way. You would have to splice some wires that run to the clutch pedal sensor just under the dash. The switch could be used to disable the sensor. Somehow I think that would work.

I think you need to use the switch as a jumper..Pedal pushed in, power goes thru...Jump from one side, thru the switch to the other side, switch off, no power..switch on would be the same as pressing the pedal..Makes sense to me..

Been there done that.

Not worth it on the Explorer for starting in gear off-road. Not enough umph and not enough low range with the stock t-case. There is a bunch of stuff on the clutch pedel one of the things is a rod that it connects to. When you push it down these electronic do-dads (thats a technical term) make contact and allow you to start it. Well all you gotta do is break the clip off that holds all that stuff in place and make those touch all the time and you can do that. I accually have not tried to start up the truck in gear since I got my Optima. Its been a long time since I did this so I don't know. I know I started it out in gear a few times and didn't have to much of a problem going down a hill.

Lets just say its possible. :)
